Use Shaving Cream on Greasy Carpet Stains

Summary: Grease stains are a huge problem, especially in kitchen and dining room carpets. To remove a grease stain from a carpet, spray foam shaving cream over the stain and work it into the carpet fibers. Let the foam dry and vacuum it and the stain away.

Grease can sometimes make nasty, hard to clean stains in your carpeting. This is especially likely if you have carpeting in your kitchen or dining area. Grease sticks to carpets in a way other materials do not, and when it has soaked into the fibers, it can be almost impossible to remove. Even some professional carpet cleaners have a hard time getting grease out of carpets. If you do get grease in your carpet, there is hope. All you have to do is follow this trick to make that grease slide away.

All you will need in order to make your carpet look great is a can of aerosol shaving cream. Make sure to buy the kind that comes out as a foam and not as a gel. The gel will just be another soapy mess to get out of your carpet. Spray the aerosol shaving cream all over the greasy area of your carpet and gently work the foam into the carpet fibers. If you don't want to get your hands too dirty (or smell like you've been shaving a man's face all day) use a brush or gloves to push the foam into the grease stain. You can also place the spray nozzle directly into the carpet and spray along between the fibers. Spraying directly into the carpet will make it easier for you to work the foam into the carpet. You will also get more of a benefit from the rising foam action of the shaving cream. The rising bubbles help to lift out gunk and stains.

Let the foam dry completely. It will leave behind a bit of a residue. Vacuum up this residue and the grease stain will come with it. If there is anything left on your carpet, you can use one of the handy carpet-cleaning tips in one of our other articles.
