Clean Your Light Bulbs for a Brighter Day

Summary: For some reason, a dimmer house just doesn't look as clean and nice as a brighter house. To keep your house looking bright, clean your light bulbs. If you turn them off and let them cool, you will be able to safely and thoroughly dust each bulb, allowing up to 50% more light into your home.

Nothing is more inviting than a brightly lit, clean home. All the other tips that we have given should help you to clean your home the best you can, using mostly household items and often an all-natural cleaning method. But even after you clean your house as thoroughly as you can, you may find that your house keeps getting duller by the day and even darker at night. One solution would be to get new light bulbs, but most people would prefer to do something else first, especially if you use expensive but energy saving florescent lights.

If you want your house to look brighter than before, and you have already dusted your light covers, try dusting your light bulbs. Dusting the bulbs could give you as much as 50 percent more light. There are a couple of things that you need to keep in mind if you decide to use this handy hint. The first is that you need to make sure the light is turned off. This will make it safe to look at up close so you can get all the dust. It will also make cleaning safer since it will reduce the chance of electric shock. Finally, many light bulbs, especially halogen bulbs, get extremely hot. Make sure to give your light bulbs a chance to cool before you attack them with your cloth. This precaution will prevent burns, and it will also stop cloth from being melted on to the light.

If, after you have dusted your light bulbs, you find that the room still seems a little dreary, maybe it is your lampshades that need to be cleaned off. They could be dirty, or they could have darkened with age. Either way, it will reduce the amount of light that can get through. If all they need is a good cleaning, look at our other articles to find some handy hints. If, after cleaning them, the room is still dark, consider replacing the lampshades. You can find replacements at most department stores. You will find that the room will look brighter than it has for years.
