Use Brushes when Cleaning

Brushes can be used for all sorts of cleaning chores. They can be used as the primary method of cleaning for a wide variety of cleaning tasks, from scrubbing a carpet to cleaning out a bathtub. Even when the brush will not be used as the primary cleaning tool, you can use them to assist with the task at hand.

One good example of using a brush as a backup tool can be seen while you are vacuuming or dusting. Often there are hard to reach places that your cloth or vacuum just cannot reach. Without a brush, you would have to just leave dust and remember to come back later with a better tool. However, if you have a whiskbroom or a small, unused paintbrush, you should be able to reach many more areas and get everything cleaned the first time through.

Another great idea is to use brushes when cleaning lampshades and curtains. Many times rags just are not very effective at getting rid of the spots or dusts. Instead, try using a soft-bristled baby's hairbrush. This will work well especially while cleaning delicate fabrics. Getting dust or spots in the grooves of pleated lampshades is easy if you use a paintbrush. If the object you are cleaning has both delicate fabrics and coarser fabrics, you can use both softer and rougher brushes to clean the object. That way, when you are working on the delicate fabrics, you can reduce the chance of causing damage that you would cause using stiffer brushes.

One more idea is to use a brush with thick bristles, such as one used to scrub in the bath tub, while cleaning the carpet. Carpet cleaners usually do a pretty good job of cleaning out stains, but for particularly tough stains, scrubbing with this kind of brush beforehand will help the carpet cleaner lift out the stain when the machine goes over it. You can use this same method on a small rug if you do not want to use a large carpet cleaner.
