I hate it when you're ironing and then you realize your iron's hot plate is dirty, resulting in the iron sticking to clothes and a not-so-pleasant ironing experience. It may be your first inclination to just toss the iron and invest in a new one, but who wants to do that when there are ways to effectively remove the gunk from your iron's hot plate? Save yourself the cost of a new iron and follow these simple tips.
The best way to remove the stains and gunk from your iron is actually to use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser really is magic and works on just about anything. All you do is wet a small corner of the eraser and rub it onto the stain. Then you simply rub it until the stain comes out. I'd definitely go for the Magic Eraser before I tried something else.
What you don't want to do, however, is use any kind of vinegar solution—they don't work. You may hear of vinegar solutions being able to clean just about anything, but it's a myth. Vinegar can clean some things, but not everything. If you try a vinegar solution to cleaning your iron's hot plate it won't do anything and then you'll be left with an iron that's still dirty and a smelly laundry room.
Cleaning your iron's hot plate really isn't difficult—just rely on the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. If the name brand is a bit more expensive than you'd like to spend there are generic brands that work just as well. Also remember to definitely avoid the vinegar solutions because they don't work. You don't have to go out and buy a new iron just because your current one is a bit dirty. Here's to a clean iron hot plate!
