Give Permanent Press Items a Boost

Summary: Sometimes your permanent press items lose their shape and start looking kind of limp. Here are a few ways to give those clothes a bit of a boost!

Has it ever happened to you that your permanent press clothing sometimes loses its shape? I know it's happened to me and sometimes it's a bit disheartening. I have those favorite articles of clothing and it's always so disappointing when they begin to lose their shape and look baggy and loose. Can you give your permanent press items a boost? Or are you just doomed to shapeless clothes? Fortunately the answer is affirmative to the former—you can give your permanent press items and boost and keep them looking good for longer!

One of the ways to do this is to by keeping them in a drawer so their shape doesn't fall out when hanging. This is an easy way to get started and only necessitates more drawer space. If you hang up your permanent press items, you risk the shape falling out, but if you fold the clothes and store them neatly in the drawer, they'll have a decreased chance of losing their shape.

You can also try washing your permanent press items in hotter water and drying them all the way. This technique actually works for shrinking clothes, but sometimes that's what you need to get your clothes back to the way they were. It won't really shrink your clothes, just tighten up the fibers enough so the garment can keep its basic shape.

It's also important to note that sometimes it's not possible to put the real shape back into your clothes. You may be able for a while to come up with a semblance of what it used to be, but you should know when to let go. Some items just have to retire to the back of the closet or to the Saturday drawer after some time. It's okay for clothes to reach that point and you just need to be able to recognize when that is.

So there are definitely routes you can take to preserve the shapely integrity of your permanent press items, but with that also comes the task of knowing when to retire certain items. It's okay to put some clothing articles on the back shelf but you can wear them as long as you can maintain the shape!
