Make Stainless Steel Sparkle

Have you ever wondered why they call it stainless steel, since it so quickly and easily gets covered with water spots? As annoying as this easily staining surface may be, water spots and other marks on stainless steel must be dealt with constantly. The tips below can help remove those water spots and make your stainless steel sparkle clean and blemish-free, like it should.

The best way to make stainless steel shine is to pour some club soda or white vinegar on a clean dish cloth. Use the cloth to thoroughly rub down your sink. After cleaning off all of the spots, make sure to dry the sink with a clean, dry cloth to prevent streaks. Be especially careful to wipe off any remaining drops of liquid, or you may end up where you began—with water spots all over your sink. Using this method will make your stainless steel presentable for any company.

If you have rust stains on your stainless steel sink, it is still possible to make your sink shine. Try pouring some lighter fluid on a clean cloth and scrubbing the spots until they come out. Please keep in mind that lighter fluid is highly flammable. It must be kept away from open flames or burning cigarettes. Also remember that clothing covered with flammable material can be dangerous in a washing machine or dryer, so wash the cloth—and any clothing that may have come into contact with the lighter fluid—with soap or detergent in the sink after removing the rust stains. Once the rust has been removed, use the club soda or vinegar method above to make the whole sink look great.

Please keep in mind that when working with stainless steel, you should always use something soft and non-abrasive. As tempting as it may be to use steel wool on that pesky spot, doing so will only damage your stainless steel.
