Freshen Your Clothes with Dryer Sheets

Summary: Clothing always smells sweet and fresh when it comes out of the dryer. Maintain that fresh scent by keeping dryer sheets in your closet or drawers. You can also rub a dryer sheet on your clothes to quickly freshen them and remove static.

Is it not amazing how quickly the fresh smell of clothes that just came out of the dryer turns into a dull odor? The smell of the clothing when it comes out of your dryer is partially from the laundry detergent, but most of the reason for the smell is because of the dryer sheets you use in your dryer. Dryer sheets have a small amount of fragrance that is rubbed onto your clothes as everything is tumbled around and dried up. The amount of fragrance is so small that it quickly fades, but most would agree that it is great while it lasts. If you do not use dryer sheets when you dry, I would recommend it. Once you smell how much better it is, you will never go back to not using them.

To preserve that freshly laundered clothing scent, all you need to do is place unused dryer sheets into the areas where you store your clothing. Put them in dresser drawers and in closets. You only need to use one per drawer, and about two or three per closet, depending of the size of your closet. The scent released from the dryer sheets will work over a fairly long period of time, up to around a couple of months, depending on how strong you want that freshly laundered scent to stay. Replace the sheets whenever you deem necessary.

As an added bonus to the smell, dryer sheets are also used to reduce static in clothing. If you live in a particularly static-filled area, you might consider keeping several dryer sheets on hand. You will find that the static reducing properties of dryer sheets still work if you just rub them on your clothing, rather than having them go through the wash and dry cycle. Just be aware that some dryer sheets may leave some residue on your clothing, so try it on an inconspicuous part of your clothing first. If the dryer sheets do use a residue, you can rub them on the inside of your clothing.

Your clothes smell great when they come out of the dryer. Part of the reason is because of the dryer sheets that add a small amount of fragrance to the clothes. You can preserve that fresh scent by placing unused dryer sheets in your dresser drawers and closets. Just add one per drawer, and perhaps two or three to your closet. They will, over time, give off the same scent that you associate with freshly dried clothes.
