Have you ever come downstairs in the morning and become upset because last night's mess is still sitting there? The dishes have not been done, dinner has not been completely put away or thrown out, and that board game you were playing last night with your family still has all the little pieces scattered on the coffee table. I have experienced this on more than a few days, and I never feel very good seeing the mess. Instead of seeing the sunshine of a new day, I only see more chores that have to get done. When I should be planning out another fun-filled day, I start doing dishes as my first chore in a slow and depressing day.
There are only two solutions I know to this problem. The first is to just deal with it, but that is not very helpful. The second is to clean up the night before. This sometimes can be more daunting than it sounds. After a long day, the last thing most people what to do is spend time in front of the sink cleaning out dishes. But if you do it quickly and right after the activity is done, it usually does not feel so bad. If you have a family, assign specific chores for each person, and then you can spend family time together cleaning, and then doing something that everyone can enjoy.
If you try this second approach, it is amazingly rewarding in the morning. A clean house makes waking up just so much more of a happy experience.
This little tip is not just for a daily routine, but also for when you are going on long trips. If you will spend just a little extra time making the place look decent before you leave, you will not regret it later. When you come back, tired from your long trip, it is so much more inviting to come home to an organized home, rather than a dirty mess.
This particular tip may sound frustrating and difficult, but keep in mind that you only need to do a slight tidying, not a deep cleaning, to wake up to a neat home.
