Never Again Clean On Weekends

Summary: Weekends are made for having fun. If you don't want to spend your weekends cleaning instead of having fun, you need to make a plan for when you will clean your house during the week. Write down which rooms you will clean each day, and a little bit of work at a time will go a long way; save your weekend for yourself.

One lesson that almost every college student learns in their first year of classes is that the weekend is for having fun. As we grow older, we begin to forget this, and instead use the weekend to catch up on our household chores. Although there might be a couple of people who actually like cleaning when they should be playing, most people probably want to use the weekend to relax.

The cleaning, however, does have to be done. If it is not done on the weekend, it has to be done some other time. The best way to do it is to plan time out during the week to clean up your house. Just like you need to plan on not doing a weekend cleaning, do not plan to clean your house all on one day. If you do this, you will probably be too exhausted when you reach that day to do all the cleaning you plan.

Instead you need to make a plan on how you are going to clean your house. I would suggest writing this plan down so you have motivation to follow it. Making a plan and not procrastinating are two good habits that certainly go against human nature, but these habits are certainly beneficial. Just like kids learn that if they finish all of their homework early they have more time to have more fun, you need to learn that once you get your housework done, you'll have more time and more peace of mind when you go out to play.

In this plan, you should decide what rooms you want to clean on which day. Decide from the start that you will only spend about 15 minutes to a half an hour cleaning every day, and then spend your time cleaning your house as planned. If you do everything right, when you hit the weekend, your cleaning will not be backed up. That means that all you have to do is do a little cleaning on the weekend and everything will look great. Then you will be able to spend you Saturdays going out and having fun rather than scrubbing the bathroom toilet.
