A Tidy Home Is More Appealing

Summary: When doing an emergency cleaning job for short-notice guests, you'll want to keep a few things in mind that will save you both work and time. You only need to clean the rooms that your guests will be entering, including one bathroom. You also only need to do a surface cleaning, organizing or hiding things that are at eye level or otherwise easily visible.

Almost all of us have run into a situation where we have company coming over and our house is a mess. It would be great it we could freeze time and do a thorough cleaning of the house, but that just is not going to happen. That means that with limited time, you really have to decide quickly which tasks you are going to do and which you will save for another time.

If you do run into such a situation, you probably will not have time to read this, but hopefully you will have read it in the past and remember it as you quickly clean. Some things are more obvious to the eye than other things. Most company will not go around doing a white glove check, so they will not spot any dust or similar problems. Instead, they will see clutter that is at eye level. That means you should start there.

Start by sprucing up your tables, shelves, and counters. These will probably be the first thing that any guest will see. Make sure that these areas are all free of magazines, mail, and other knickknacks, or at least what is there has been organized so as to look like you put it there for decoration or organization.

Another thing that you need to determine is which rooms your guests are going to be going into. If they are only going into the family room and the kitchen, do not spend time cleaning up the guest bedroom or other bedrooms. One thing that you must always be sure to do is clean one bathroom for you guests to go to. A thorough cleaning of a bathroom will take a long time, but just make sure there are no gross stains in the toilet or sink, and that the shower curtain is closed.

Even though your house will not be perfect after this, it will look decent enough that it will presentable for your guests.
