Restore Shine to Wood Floors

Summary: Wood floors can be a beautiful decoration in your home, but as they get older, they can become dull. To restore the shine to your wood flooring, mix equal parts vinegar and oil in a spray bottle. Spray portions of your flooring and wipe them down, piece by piece, to shine your floor.

Even though carpeting is softer and a much nicer place to lie down and play with your dogs or cats, hardwood floors are much more decorative and beautiful. Wood floors, when property taken care of, give a shine that makes the whole room look majestic. When the wood floor starts to dull, though, the look of the floor goes quickly from majestic and classy to bland and messy.

There are many professional cleaners out there that are supposed to restore the shine to your hardwood floor, but they can be pricey, and many of them just are not very effective. Instead, try this handy little tip, and you change those dull wood floors into a grand decoration in your home.

To restore the shine in your floor, all you need are two very common household items: white vinegar and vegetable oil. Mix equal parts of the white vinegar and oil and put them into a pump-spray bottle. You may want to swirl the bottle around just a little every few minutes to insure that everything is mixed properly. As with any chemical mixture, if you plan on keeping it in the spray bottle, you should label it. It will help you know what you are using later, and it should also prevent other people using it for something else.

Once you have the mixture in a spray bottle, just squirt a little over the hardwood floor and rub it with a cotton rag. A wax applicator will also work well for rubbing the mixture into the floor. Make sure you cover your whole floor, but you probably only want to do a section at a time, just to make sure you get all of the mixture rubbed in. If there is any leftover solution, make sure to wipe it up with a clean cloth. Then buff your floor until it is back to its original glow.
