How to Remove Silly Putty from Blankets

Summary: What's worse than trying to get Silly Putty out of carpeting? Try getting it out of fabric. It's even more difficult to accomplish, especially if the fabric is an angora blanket!

The best way to remove Silly Putty from fabrics and blankets is to freeze the stuff. The putty is noted for its many forms and unusual characteristics. It can flow like liquid syrup, and will puddle over time. It can also bounce, but it will crack if cooled sufficiently or given a sharp blow. That's why the best way to remove Silly Putty from fabric is to freeze it. Here's how:

  • Place the blanket into your deep freezer (or whatever type of freezer you have).
  • Allow it to sit inside overnight.
  • The next morning, remove the blanket to your kitchen table or floor and crack the putty with a hammer, and then peel it away from the fabric.
  • You may need to refreeze the fabric if there is a large amount of putty to remove.

If you're still having trouble removing the putty from the blanket or fabric, try dissolving it with Goo Gone or WD-40. Since Silly putty will dissolve in an oil-based product, you can also use brake fluid.

Rubbing alcohol will also dissolve the putty. Hot water is not recommended for dissolving Silly Putty, however, since the hot water will simply melt the putty, forcing it to spread to other areas. When it cools, it will be more difficult to remove the putty, since it now encompasses a larger area.

I've found the perfect way to remove silly putty! Hand sanitizer! I've used it on clothing and stuffed animals and it works great. Put it on the putty, let it sit a few minutes, scrape off the excess and rub alittle more in to remove the color and wash. I hate to say how many times I've had to use it, but its works!

If you need a lot of boiled eggs for salads and such poach them instead turn them out on a cutting board to cool and then cut them as you would a cake into six. No peeling ! saves heaps of time .
