Clear Out the Garage

Summary: A garage can be more than a giant storage shed. If you clean out your garage regularly and get rid of old items, you'll have more room for other crafts. If you organize your garage, you may even have room to protect your car.

Most people's garages act more as storage sheds than as actual rooms to a home. After years of treating it like a storage space, there will soon be no room for a person go to into our garage, much less a car. When this happens, cleaning out the garage is an intimidating task, and it is more likely to be pushed off for later if it is such a mountain to conquer.

If, instead of letting the clutter build up over time, you clean out the garage regularly, it can become a great place to do things like car repair, or other crafts that just will not quite work in the rest of the house. To get it to be like this, think of the garage more like a bedroom closet. Go through it regularly. If it is full of items that you do not use any more, donate them to charity. They say one man's junk is another man's treasure. This is especially true when the junk still works, but is just cluttering up your garage.

Something to keep in mind while you are cleaning out the garage is that the garage will not protect things from cold, heat, and dampness. So if while you are excavating a pile, you find something that is valuable and not already damaged, you should take it inside. That way it will survive as long as you need it.

When everything you do not need is gone, rearrange everything that is left so that it is organized. This will make everything easier to find and much easier to use. This means that next time you need a screwdriver, you will actually be able to reach the tool chest and find what you are looking for.

Although this last tip is ultimately your choice, just think about how much your car is worth. Now compare the value of your car versus all the junk that you have in your garage. Why do you keep all that junk protected inside your garage, and let your expensive car be potentially damaged on the street? Move it inside. It will last longer.
