Safely Remove Crazy Glue From Countertops

If you have ever tried to help your child make a school diorama in the kitchen, or worked on any arts and craft project at all, then you know the frustration a person feels when they have spilled a little superglue on their kitchen countertops. Spilled crazy glue, probably because of it's very nature, seems to be next to impossible to remove from anything. Crazy glue started off as a brand name, but over time has become so synonymous with the super glue type of glue, that the two have become interchangeable.

Here are a few simple items that you can use to help you safely remove crazy glue from countertops. One word of caution though, before you attempt any of these solutions. Any possible solution may damage your countertops if you are not careful, so you are going to want to test the method. Either use a similar material as your countertop, or test the method in a spot that is easily hidden or out of the way. That way, if there is a problem, it won't ruin the rest the counter at large.

• Nail polish remover. One of the main ingredients in nail polish remover is acetone, and this ingredient breaks down the bond between the glue and item it is on. Put enough of the nail polish remover on the spill to cover it and allow it to sit for fifteen to thirty minutes. When that time has passed, simply wipe it up with a wash cloth or sponge and warm soapy water.
• Solvent. In most stores there is a bottle of superglue solvent right next to the bottles of superglue. The major ingredient of each of these solvents is the same thing that is found in nail polish remover and acts in a similar manner. When using the solvent, make sure you follow the directions on the package—often the manufacturer will tell you specifically what kinds of surfaces you can and cannot use the solvent on.
• Razors. Razors are among the most effective and potentially damaging methods available. If you are going to use a razor, make sure you are able to handle it safely. Place a couple of drops of dishwashing detergent onto the dried crazy glue and mix a little warm water in with it. This will help protect the counter from getting gouged. Hold the razor blade nearly parallel to the counter and work your way from the outside in, so that you can pry or lift the glue off of the counter.
