Cleaning a Bagless Vacuum Cleaner

Summary: Keeping your bagless vacuum container clean is essential to keeping your carpets and floors clean. A simple washing out of your container and a quick cleaning out of your filter will keep your cleaner in great working condition.

I love my bagless vacuum cleaner. It's so easy to use. When I fill up the container, I just dump it in my trash can and reattach it. However, I started to notice that a thick dirt film was starting to accumulate and I wondered if I needed to take it in to get serviced. Cleaning your bagless container is a simple job and one you can do at home. All you need is some warm water and soap. Cleaning your bagless container is a simple job and one you can do at home. All you need is some warm water and soap.

  1. Remove the container. To clean the container out, remove it from the machine. Dump out any excess dirt or debris collected in there from a previous vacuum.
  2. Remove any filters. If there are any filters inside the container, you will want to remove them before cleaning out the inside of your container. Make sure you clean the filter by lightly brushing it with your fingers or with a cloth.
  3. Cleaning the container. Once the filter and extra debris is removed from the container, lightly tap the container against the side of your garbage container. This will remove any particles not removed when you first emptied it out. I usually get a small basin of warm soapy water and clean it the inside with a damp sponge. This definitely rids your container of any extra build up.
  4. Replace the filter and container. Replace the cleaned filter inside the container and reattach the container to the vacuum cleaner.

Cleaning out the container on your vacuum cleaner is an easy job. It keeps up the maintenance on your machine as well as makes sure that your carpets and floors get much cleaner. I will typically clean my container about once a month or more, depending on the season. I find that my container needs this simple cleaning trick about 2-3 times per month in the winter and fall and about 1 time per month in the spring and summer months.
