Get Rid of Dryer Grease Stains

Summary: For some reason even though you do everything right when washing your clothes, there are times when stains still seem to "magically" appear. Often these stains come from the dryer for some reason or another. Here is everything that you need to know so you can get rid of dryer grease stains.

It seems like no matter how well you clean your laundry there are times when you still end up with mysterious little stains on your clothes. Even if you take the time to thoroughly check your pants, shirts, and all pockets in your clothes, these stains can still "magically" appear. When this happens it can be extremely annoying and frustrating. After all, aren't your clothes supposed to come out of the washer and dryer completely clean and dry, practically ready to wear?

There are a few reasons why your clothes may still come out of the dryer with little stains. As you will soon see, some of them don't even have anything really to do with the dryer it self, but rather the washer. If you take a look at these reasons, and get them fixed, you will have perfectly clean clothes yet again.

  • Dryer seals. Periodically it is a good idea to check the seals on your dryer. This doesn't mean the seals on the door, but rather the one around the engine of the dryer. Just like in a car or truck, the engine of your dryer has oil that can periodically seep into the dryer itself. By checking to make sure that these seals are intact and in place properly and replacing them if necessary, you can prevent many of these mysterious stains.
  • Dryer sheets. Believe it or not, if you use too much fabric softener the dryer sheets can actually cause stains when they become heated up in the dryer. By reducing the amount of fabric softener, or dryer sheets, that you use in each drying cycle you can reduce, or even eliminate these stains.
  • Fabric softener buildup. Sometimes these mysterious stains come not from your dryer, but rather from the washer. If you have a washing machine that has an automatic liquid softener dispenser, there could be a buildup somewhere in the system. As stated previously, if you use too much softener, when it goes through dryer it can heat up to the point that it leaves stains behind. If you do not feel confident in your skills as a mechanic, then you should have a washer mechanic come to take a look at the line.
  • Clothes getting stuck. Another cause for these stains that can actually start in the washing machine is the clothes getting stuck between the agitator and the drum. If you notice that your clothes keep getting stuck, and you are having difficulties removing the clothes after washing, then check to make sure that there is no damage to the agitator itself and retighten it if necessary.

This article does address primarily how to prevent dryer grease stains, but also how to keep them from happening again in the future. Many times if you don't know how to prevent the stains from reappearing, then they will keep coming back.

Dryer grease stains though are fairly easy to get rid of, since tehy are just grease. Take a look at our other great article found at:

http://cleaning.tips.net/Pages/T004210_Remove_Grease_Stains.html

to see for some ways to remove grease stains that have been set in through age or drying.

Hope this helps.

This is not a cleaning tip. It is how to prevent the stain to start with. I need to know how to remove grease left by dryer sheets once it has happened to my clothes.

Thank You
Linda
