Household Cleaners

Summary: There are a lot of household cleaners out there. This article focuses on the most common ones.

Dishwashing soaps are extremely useful. Sometimes you can use them in ways other than their original purpose (in a solution with water as a safe cleaner for eyeglasses, for example), but this liquid is known used for what it was first introduced, especially since getting it rinsed off of, say, floors takes some persistence. Dishwasher detergents, more than dishwashing soaps, are best used as companies expect. They can be harsh on skin and cause sensitivity.

Floor cleaners are really quite amazing. Some you can use to mop a hard flooring (wood, laminate, tile, vinyl in some cases, linoleum, et cetera) and never have to rinse off. Some you are more complicated. As far as carpets go, steam is usually recommended as a safe cleaning option (an exception might be your imported, handwoven dining room rug), and all the detergent you need for that is water mixed with cleaning solution.

Furniture and upholstery cleaners are a bit more specialized. It is important that you get a cleaner that will not damage the furniture and/or upholstery you are trying to clean. Do a spot check on an inconspicuous part of the furniture to be sure that you have chosen the correct cleaner for the job.

And then there are bathroom cleaners, not to mention multipurpose cleaners, and these can come in handy in the kitchen as well. Check the container for the surfaces it is safe to use upon and, if you are at all doubtful, consider doing a spot check with this cleaner as well.

Glass cleaner can be costly. Lots of times, people will use a mixture of one half cup of vinegar to a gallon of water, since vinegar is a great grease- and grime-cutter. But, if you prefer store-bought cleansers, you can buy a glass cleaner at any mass retailer, grocery, or even dollar store.

Oven cleaners can be pretty powerful not only on your oven, but also on your nose and lungs. Ventilate the area when using bottles of this stuff from the store. You can also make your own, but for the most part, people purchase their oven cleaners from the store.
