Carpet Cleaning Supplies

If you have ever tried to clean your own carpet, then you know it often requires specialized equipment. Did you ever think about all the cleaning supplies required for it? Besides the brushes, household grade vacuums, and professional or rental appliances, there is still more. For example, a carpet protector is a liquid product that does a great job of removing stains. However, the main supplies you will usually want to know about are those associated with the use of actual carpet cleaning machines.

When you are using a steam cleaning appliance, water and detergent are often all you need. Detergents can be bought online at any of a large number of retailers. The steam cleaning method is also known as "hot water extraction" since the impurities are first loosened by a hot solution and then sucked out of the pile with a powerful vacuum. Other extraction methods use a non-residue shampoo, or some kind of pre-cleaning spray to grab onto the grime and bring it along when you suck it out with the appliance you are using. Keep in mind that you will need to do a little agitation (scrubbing) with the brush on the bottom of the appliance in order to work the cleaner into the carpet and loosen the detritus within its pile so that it will be easy to rinse and/or extract.

Bonnet cleaning will require you to obtain a bonnet for the machine you are using. A bonnet is a round pad that will agitate your carpet so that dirt comes out of the top layer. This is not considered a "deep cleaning" method, but it can work for you if you have only a slightly filthy carpet that has surface grime. Detergent is still required for this method, and this detergent can also be found online at one of the sites below.

There are times when a "dry cleaning" technique needs to be used. In this case, you'll need to purchase a shampoo that becomes a dry foam when brushed into the carpet. The foam will then dry and become something similar to carpet dandruff that you can simply suck away with a carpet-cleaning appliance that carries a powerful vacuum.
