Make a Checklist for Cleaning Chores

Summary: Making a checklist will help to give you a sense of accomplishment when you get things done. It will help you to remain organized and remember the things that you need to do. You can also assign rewards to different checklist items to motivate you to do them.

For many people, cleaning can be boring. It may feel repetitive and unrewarding. This certainly is not a problem for all people, but for those who do feel that to be the case, try making a checklist of your cleaning tasks. This may sound like a strange thing to do, but it is actually quite helpful for everyone who does it.

Making a checklist in general is a good idea because then you know exactly what needs to be done around the house. You do not have to limit this to just cleaning. The list can also include some of the other tips that we have mentioned, such as adding fresh smelling items to certain rooms, or preventative measures again dirt. This list can also include paying bills or other similar errands. If you want to spice up your list a little, you can even add some fun things in, like watching your favorite TV show or going on a picnic. If you are trying to cram your day with things to do, you could actually plan to do more than you can physically do in one day. Be careful with this one, though, since for some people this can be damaging.

Another specific reason to make a checklist is that it can make cleaning more satisfying. If you check something off every time you get it done, it will feel like you are making progress, and it will make you feel good about your efforts since you can actually see your accomplishments.

If you want to add a little more flair to your checklist, put down specific rewards for when you check off enough cleaning tasks. Hey, you've made progress, why not celebrate?

Something that I have found particularly helpful with a checklist is to do it the night before. It may just be me, but I find that when I do it that way, I am a little clearer about what I need to do, and I am less likely to miss important items. It gives me time to think about what needs to go on the list and how much time I will need for each task.

The main thing is to experiment and find out what works for you. You can try different variations, like doing a weeklong checklist instead of a daily one, or even various checklists to categorize things. In the end, if it makes your routine better, it is a successful activity.
