Cleaning Messy Candleholders

Even in this modern day of electricity and light bulbs, candles still have a purpose and are commonly used. While we may not use them for light as much anymore, they are still used for aroma, beauty, setting the mood, or religious purposes. For general lighting purposes, it is obvious why we switched over to electric light bulbs: they give more light, they are less of a fire hazard, and they cause less of a mess. But since candles are still used, we still have to deal with the mess they create.

Since people rarely use candles, most of us have no experience in quickly cleaning up the mess. You could try using the same cleaning methods that you use while cleaning other surfaces, but it will not be a quick as some other methods. The easiest way to remove wax from a candleholder is to place it in the freezer for a few hours. This will work to freeze the wax so it will all stick together. When you remove the candleholder from the freezer, all you will need to do is peel the wax off. This should leave the candleholder wax free. If it is a metal candleholder and the metal is tarnished at all, use the method best suited for that metal to polish the tarnish out.

Once you have a clean, wax free candleholder, there is a trick you can use to stop the candleholder from getting waxy again. All you have to do is apply a very thin coat of non-stick cooking spray. The next time that you use your candleholder, the wax will wipe right off.
