Chewing gum is a nice thing to have around. It is good for making your breath smell better and for just having something to chew, and some can even help clean or whiten your teeth. Unfortunately, once the gum has left the mouth, it is good for almost nothing but to leave a sticky mess in a garbage can. What is worse is if the gum is left somewhere it should not be, like under a desk, on the sidewalk, or on your shoe. These can all be a pain to remove, but the most annoying of all is if the gum gets stuck in your carpet. It looks disgusting, and is extremely difficult to remove.
If someone has left this unsightly mess on your carpet, you do have alternatives to leaving the gum there and replacing your carpet. Even just pulling and praying that the gum will all come out is not necessary. If you want to get that gum out of your sight, just try this handy hint.
The only thing that you need to get gum out of your carpet is a jar of creamy peanut butter. After you scrape up the excess gum (this may be easier if you freeze it with an ice cube first), just take a little bit of peanut putter and rub it into the carpet fibers. Make sure you only get the area where you have gum stuck. Getting it in other areas will not hurt anything, it will just be a hassle to clean up.
Once the peanut butter is thoroughly rubbed in, wipe up the peanut butter, along with the residual gum, with a clean cloth. This will leave behind a little bit of peanut butter, but don't worry, you can make your own mixture to clean it up. All you need to do is mix together one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and one cup of lukewarm water. Dab the area with this mixture. As it dries, it will leave the carpet looking just like before. To help it dry faster, blot the area with a paper towel.
