Removing Egg Stains
Summary: Eggs can get everywhere, but you can remove them with many of the same techniques you'd use to remove other stains. Scrape or sponge away any excess egg, then scrub the stain with dish or laundry detergent. You can also freeze the egg and smash it off with the blunt end of a knife.Eggs are great for baking, and a runny egg can taste great on toast, but egg on your clothes is not so great. Dried eggs can prove difficult to get out of the fabric of your clothes. Here are a couple of steps you should take to prevent a permanent mark on your shirt or pants, or to clean up egg spilled on your carpet or couch.
Start by removing as much of the egg as you can without water. Scrape away any egg that has dried on top of the fabric by gently running a dull edge over the stain. Sponge away any wet egg.
Once you have removed any excess egg, dab water onto both sides of the fabric with a wet cloth or sponge. This should loosen the egg from the fibers a bit. If the egg stain is old, it might help to rub in some liquid laundry detergent or a paste of dry laundry detergent mixed with water. If the egg is on a shirt, soak it in cool water for up to half an hour. While the shirt is soaking, you should try rubbing or scraping more of the egg away.
Once the shirt has soaked for half an hour, remove it from the sink and run cold water through the back of the stain to try to get more of it out. Rub some liquid laundry detergent or dish soap into the stain and leave a layer of detergent on top of the stain. Let the detergent sit for five minutes, then rinse and rub. Soak the garment in cold water until the stain is well rinsed and wet, and then launder it normally with your other clothes.
If your clothes are colorfast, try blotting the stain with solutions, alternating liquid detergent mixed with water and ammonia mixed with water.
If you have egg on your carpet or upholstery, scrape or blot away as much of the stain as possible with a butter knife and some paper towels. Spray cold water on the stain, and blot again. Apply carpet shampoo to any remaining stain, and allow the carpet or couch to completely dry. Once the area is dry, vacuum the egg up.
Another method you could try is to freeze the egg, then hit the stain with something hard, such as a knife handle, to break it up. Then just vacuum up the egg flakes.
