Removing a Scorch Mark on Fabric

I have had those moments when I'm getting dressed for a more than casual occasion and I take out my white blouse to wear, put it on, and then when reviewing myself in the mirror realize I have a noticeable scorch mark on the side. Blast. I may not be able to rid my blouse of the stain in time for my job interview, but fortunately I can remove it in time for church on Sunday.

There are a few different ways you can go about removing that pesky stain:

• Dip a random piece of fabric in hydrogen peroxide, place it on the stain, and iron over it until the stain comes out. This works on linen and white cotton.
• If the fabric is cotton, when you scorch it while ironing, place it immediately in cold water for 24 hours and the stain should come out.
• You can also rub white vinegar on the stain followed by rubbing it with cold water. The stain should come out and you can continue ironing (if you don't desire to wash out that unpleasant vinegar smell).
• Try rubbing lemon juice on the stain and placing it out in the sun to bleach it out

Another thing to keep in mind is simple scorch prevention. Know the type of fabric you're ironing and know what heat setting it takes. Don't iron with a setting that's too hot because not only could you end up scorching the material, but you could even melt or warp your garment. Obviously don't leave the iron on one spot for too long and just be aware of the fabric as you're ironing it. Much of scorch prevention comes from simple common sense.

Scorch marks, while inconvenient and a bit troublesome, can fortunately be remedied and with simple household items. Your blouse need not be ruined! Try these basic home remedies and you should be able to preserve your clothes for longer and keep them looking sharp and clean!
