Tips for Ironing when Packing Ironed Clothes

Summary: When you go on vacation, it's inevitable that your clothes will get wrinkly, regardless of whether you ironed them previous to your departure. How can you prevent or minimize this? The solution isn't difficult and just takes some routine adjusting.

Packing for the holiday is always a bit of a nightmare. You take all that time to wash and dry and iron your specially chosen cloths for the vacation, you pack them, and then you unpack them and they may be clean like when you put them in the suitcase, but they're definitely not pressed and look pretty rumpled. So then, how should you pack your clothes when you've just ironed them, knowing that they're going to end up rumpled anyway? Follow these few simple tricks and you'll be well on your way toward less travel frustration!

A newly ironed garment will crease again very quickly, so avoid wearing or packing it for several hours. I know this may be hard, but don't procrastinate your vacation preparation. Do your laundry and ironing well before you actually have to start packing and your clothes will be more "stable" I guess for not wrinkling as much. I can't promise that the wrinkles won't come after the clothes are packed in a suitcase for hours on end, but the wrinkles will likely be fewer and easier to iron out.

When folding garments make the folds crosswise, and not lengthwise where possible. The creases will then drop out more easily when unpacked and hung up. This may go against your folding training, but if the creases have a better chance at naturally falling out, or at least being less noticeable, then go for it. Also if this tactic is taken, then do keep in mind that re-ironing those clothes will probably be easier because the creases will be easer to iron out.

When packing clothe fold them over rolled up plastic bags. This will prevent serious creasing and keep your clothes from getting tangled in each other. Another trick I've found helpful is to pack your clothes flat (especially ones that need to be hung up). Pack them with the hangers on and lay them flat across the top of your other clothes. They'll still come out a little wrinkly, but nothing that can't be fixed with a hotel iron.

See? Adjusting your ironing for your vacation isn't that overwhelming of a task. Just tweak a few of your regular routines and your clothes will be in excellent condition for your vacation!
