Don't Bother Ironing Sheets, Pillowcases and Tea Towels

Ironing is often a thankless task, one that can be tedious and never ending. In a household, in a family, you could very well end up ironing a lot—it's just a part of life. You need to iron shirts, pants, blouses, skirts, dresses, and tablecloths. There may very well be times when you can't really afford to iron anything besides the necessary. So why then should you bother yourself about ironing your sheets, pillow cases, and tea towels? You shouldn't.

Ironing sheets, pillowcases, and tea towels is one of those things that really isn't necessary. The thing with your sheets, pillow cases, and tea towels is that they become wrinkly way sooner than anything else you iron. I mean, seriously, you sleep on sheets—you toss and turn in the night and bundle up in your sheets, move your head around on the pillow and everything just gets wrinkly. That's what sheets do; they're not meant to stay neat and tidy so that's why you sleep on them. They're supposed to keep you warm and make sleeping a bit more comfortable.

It's the same thing with tea towels. You use tea towels to dry your hands so naturally they're going to become a bit rumpled after a use or two. With tea towels, it's pretty much pointless to iron them because in just a few short minutes, they will become wet and wrinkly once again. It's jus not possible to keep your tea towels from not getting rumpled.

There is an exception to this one rule however. If your tea towels are for decorative purposes and aren't meant to actually be used (as seems the decorative tradition of late), then ironed tea towels will add to your look and enhance your decorative feel. In this case feel free to go crazy with the iron.

Yes, ironing is a menial job that ultimately yields solely personal satisfaction. If you're stressed out and the ironing pile is looming before you, seeming to call you to a laundry doomsday, throw out the sheets and pillow cases and tea towels and see that ironing pile drastically diminish. Ironed linens may be that link to sanity for you (some people just like ironed things!) but just be careful not to let that affinity lead to insanity.
