Clean Aluminum with Fruit. Scrubbing aluminum pots and pans can sometimes bring back their shine, but abrasives can be damaging to aluminum surfaces, and will mar even plain aluminum. Cooking acidic foods in aluminum brings back the natural gleam of aluminum. Boiling a solution of vinegar or cream of tartar in water for ten minutes can also remove buildup from aluminum pots and pans.
