The best way to remove Silly Putty from fabrics and blankets is to freeze the stuff. The putty is noted for its many forms and unusual characteristics. It can flow like liquid syrup and will puddle over time. It can also bounce, but it will crack if cooled sufficiently or given a sharp blow. That's why the best way to remove Silly Putty from fabric is to freeze it. Here's how:
If you're still having trouble removing the putty from the blanket or fabric, try dissolving it with Goo Gone or WD-40. Since Silly Putty will dissolve in a petroleum-based product, you can also use brake fluid.
Rubbing alcohol will also dissolve the putty. Hot water is not recommended for dissolving Silly Putty, however, since the hot water will simply melt the putty, forcing it to spread to other areas. When it cools, it will be more difficult to remove the putty, since it now encompasses a larger area.
