Cleaning Your Kitchen

Written by Karen Bates (last updated September 17, 2018)

Has it been a while since you really gave the kitchen a deep cleaning? It can be easy to overlook certain areas of the kitchen, and cleaning this room isn't always a top priority. However, it is important to keep the kitchen area clean because this is the place where food is prepared and people tend to gather.

Although cleaning the kitchen may seem like an immense task, it doesn't have to be. You can take it one step at a time and end up with a really clean kitchen over the span of a few days. Just pick one particular area to focus on each day, and soon the whole kitchen will be sparkling clean.

In just a few minutes a day, your kitchen can become clean, organized, and tidy. Below are some of the cleaning tasks that you can complete in the kitchen:

  • Sink. Use cleanser and a sponge to clean the sink and faucet. Rinse thoroughly. Run the disposal with water going and toss in an orange or lemon peel to freshen it up.
  • Stovetop. Spray an all-purpose cleaner or a vinegar/water solution on the stovetop. Wipe away with a paper towel or rag to remove any spots.
  • Floor. Mix a floor cleaner with water in a bucket, and then use a mop to clean the floor. Allow floor to dry before walking on it again.
  • Cabinets. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove any surface build-up.
  • Counters. Spray with a vinegar/water solution, then scrub with a sponge or rag. Wipe away with a paper towel. For any stuck-on spills, leave a wet rag on the area for several minutes, then try wiping again.
  • Drawers. Remove any items from the drawer. Use a damp rag or paper towel to remove any dust or debris from the inside of the drawer, then spray with a cleaner and wipe again to clean.
  • Refrigerator. Take all food out of the refrigerator. Using a vinegar and water solution is a safe way to clean this area. Spray the solution on the surfaces inside the fridge, then wipe with a paper towel or rag. Replace the food, then do a quick cleaning of the outside of the fridge door.

If you are willing to put a few minutes into tidying up you kitchen each day, soon you will have the whole kitchen clean and looking great.
