Is there really anything better to munch on when watching a movie, or playing a game with your family? Popcorn is a wonderful, low calorie snack that just about everyone will agree is nutritious and delicious. It even gets better when you throw in all the wonderfully tasty microwaveable varieties that are currently available. Mmmmmmm, yummy. It makes my mouth water to think about it. However, there is a draw back to this wonderful snack...that horrible burnt popcorn smell.
It is extremely easy to remove that burnt popcorn smell. Typically all you need to use is a little ingenuity and your microwave.
- Baking soda and water. Create a mixture of baking soda and water by using about two tablespoons of baking soda to every cup of water. Use this mixture and a soft, clean cloth to wipe down the interior of your microwave. Allow the mixture to sit for roughly five minutes, and then rinse out the microwave.
- Vinegar. Pour one cup of vinegar into a microwave safe bowl, and then turn the microwave on. Allow the vinegar to begin boiling, then turn the microwave off. It will vary, depending on your microwave, on how long it will take the vinegar to begin boiling. Test with a cup of water, and then you will have an idea of how long to set your microwave for. Leave the vinegar inside the microwave overnight, and then remove in the morning.
- Vinegar part two. Soak a clean sponge in white vinegar, and then add a few drops of Dawn or some other similar dishwashing detergent. Place the sponge inside your microwave, and then set the time for roughly one to two minutes, and let the steaming sponge sit for ten to fifteen minutes, after which you can use the sponge to wipe the interior of the microwave with.
- Cabbage. Obtain two round heads of cabbage (not Napa cabbage or a vegetable substitute) and a large microwave safe bowl. Quarter the cabbage heads, which will result in eight sections. Place one of the sections of cabbage into the microwave safe bowl, and then fill with water until the water is one inch away from the top of the bowl. Cook the cabbage on full power until the cabbage can be pierced with a fork. Repeat this with each section of the cabbage, and you will notice that the burnt popcorn smell should disappear somewhere between the sixth and eighth section.
