Use Club Soda for Sparkling Countertops

Written by Amy Gordon (last updated July 9, 2018)

Gorgeous countertops are a functional part of the kitchen decor that make the room shine. Unfortunately, like everything else in the kitchen, countertops will lose their sparkle after years of use. When your normal cleaning methods are just not enough, here is one trick that will brighten your counter.

You will want to remove all appliances and items from your countertop before you start to clean them. While dust doesn't usually build up underneath canisters and blenders, crumbs and other messes make their way behind these items and need to be removed. The first obvious step to a sparkling countertop is to clean off your countertop as much as you can. Once everything has been wiped down with a surface cleaner (Formula 409® or Mr. Clean® Surface Cleaner), pour some club soda onto a clean cloth or paper towel. Using this bubbly substance will help remove the dull buildup on your countertops and make them look brand new.

Another alternative to club soda is furniture polish. This mixture can also help bring out the sparkle again. Furniture polished is not as highly recommended as club soda because furniture polish fumes bother some people, but if they do not bother you, feel free to try this approach.

The best thing about both of these methods is that they will not scratch up your countertops. Even though it may be tempting to use something like a scouring powder to rub out the annoying spots and stains, it will only make your counter look duller, since it will remove the finish on your countertops. If you do come across a particularly nasty spot, try using our tip about using bleach on countertops to get out spots and stains. Even if you do not use the method we suggest, make sure to use a non-abrasive cleaner on your counter to keep the surface smooth and shiny.
