Clothes say a lot about you, your particular style, and your unique personality. Styles may change over the years, and clothes may come and go from your closet, but there seem to be certain articles of clothing that are more special than the others.
Your favorite, most timeless pieces of clothing might stay in your closet for a long time. Even if you have a pair of jeans that don't fit anymore or a shirt with a hole in it, you may hold on to these items for purely sentimental reasons. Clothes can be tied to important memories and times in your life that you want to remember.
Of course, certain items of clothing are very special and deserve preservation. Dresses in particular can be used for important events and hold many important memories, and you will probably want to safely put away these beautiful and delicate items. Instead of hanging them in the back of the closet or folding them up on a shelf, you will need to take certain measures to ensure that your dresses are properly stored.
Wedding dresses and dresses for other events can be preserved so that they will stay in like-new condition for years to come. Gown preservation refers to the techniques used to clean and package up the dress so it will remain in its current condition for an extended period of time. There are specific ways to preserve a dress correctly, and when properly done you can be sure that your dress will stay beautiful for a long time.
The best way to keep your dress in pristine condition is to first have it cleaned. Take your dress to a trusted drycleaner that has experience with wedding gowns. They will carefully clean the fabric for you and may even be able to remove any stains. Next, you will need to consider how to store the dress. Some drycleaners will do the cleaning and the packing of the dress for a set price.
To pack the dress away, you will need an acid-free box and an appropriate wrapping material, such as archival-quality tissue paper. Place the paper between the folds of your gown as you fit it into the box, and close the lid. You should store the gown in a dry place that won't get too hot, and open the box to allow the dress to breathe every few years, if desired.
Preserving a dress is a great way to keep your clothing item safe and will allow you and others to appreciate it in the future.
