Janitorial Supplies

Written by Doris Donnerman (last updated August 29, 2022)

For each job, there are certain tools that are needed to allow the work to go as smoothly as possible. Having the right supplies can ensure that a job is done correctly and up to standard without cutting corners or leaving things undone.

When it comes to cleaning and janitorial occupations, there are many items that are required to achieve quality work and leave an area looking totally clean. Although you might not have considered it before, a lot more goes into the process of cleaning and maintaining an area than just a simple broom and a trash can. Having the right supplies can make a huge difference in how well and how efficiently various cleaning tasks are done, and knowing how to use these supplies correctly is also key.

Depending on the type of janitorial work different items will be necessary to get the job done, and each situation requires its own set of tools. Here are some of the standard supplies that are used in many cleaning jobs:

  • Cleaners and chemicals for bathrooms, carpets, and windows are vital to just about any cleaning task. These supplies will help clean and sanitize various areas, and can assist in removing stains and spots.
  • Brooms, mops, scrub brushes, dust mops, and other cleaning tools will help make work easier. These will make everyday cleanup go a lot faster.
  • There are certain items that you should always have a stock of in case you run out. Trash can liners, paper towels, toilet paper, and soap are a few of the important supplies that you should have on hand at all times.
  • A good vacuum is a must-have for jobs that involve carpeted or other areas prone to collecting dirt and debris. There are many models that you can select from, including upright, backpack, and wet/dry vacuums. Be sure to have any replacement parts that you might need for these tools handy, such as belts and bags, just in case they are needed unexpectedly.
  • Some jobs call for heavier equipment like floor buffers and carpet shampooers. These will require various accessories for their use as well. Have all of the needed parts ready so you can get the job done properly.
  • Other items, like air fresheners, gum remover, gloves, safety gear, and tool kits are all helpful for regular cleaning tasks.

Having the right supplies on hand can make cleaning tasks go smoothly, ending with beautiful results.
