Garage Storage Shelving

Written by Hettie Woehler (last updated April 8, 2024)

It is never too early, or too late to Spring-clean your garage. If you never installed shelves, peg board storage, hung kids toys and cleared floor space, installing garage shelves, fastening peg board for storage, now is the time to do so. The best way to do this is by getting organized in your cleaning, and to get some garage storage shelving. While this may seem like a project that can really only be done once a year, the truth is when your garage needs to be cleaned, you can't wait for the "perfect" time.

  1. Take everything out. Yes, everything else how will you know what to throw out, what to sell and what to keep?
  2. Divide your items into different sections. What can be returned without any doubt, what you need to throw away? Articles you don't need any more but still can be sold, stuff that need reparation, paint etc. It is also a way of determining what materials, shelving and other containers you while need for storage.
  3. Plan the storage layout. If your garage is not much larger than your car or cars, it leaves little, if any, room for the kid's bicycles, lawn mower and other items. Where will the best place be for the lawn mower? Is it possible to hang bicycles and other articles from the ceiling? Where is the best place for wood work machines? Mark the space above these work benches where the peg board should be. All the smaller tools will be hooked onto the peg board. Now that you know what needs to be stored, where and what shelving will be the best for your purpose?
  4. Start revamping Implement the installation of shelves, fastening peg boards, hangers for bicycles etc. as soon as possible; Clean everything thoroughly before placing it back; Draw the outlines of the articles such as spanners, screwdrivers etc., to be hooked onto the peg board to ensure that tools are returned to their proper places after use. Place stickers on boxes containing screws, pins, washers and other articles to make it possible to keep them sorted in future too.

You don't want to repeat such a drastic reorganization and cleaning of your garage in the near future. So just keep in mind the four simple steps that you just learned. Over time you will be amazed at how easy it really is to keep your garage clean and organized.
