Floor Cleaning

The floors in your home can really impact the way an area looks. You can use floor coverings to completely change the appearance and mood of a room. It is also important to properly clean the flooring in order to keep up a neat and flawless appearance in your home.

You have various choices when it comes to flooring. You might prefer carpet, tile, wood, linoleum, or something else to cover the floors in the rooms of your house, or a combination of a few of these. Everyone has preferences about types of flooring, but one thing you should know is how to correctly clean the floors in your home.

Of course, the way you should go about cleaning and maintaining the floors in your home depends on what material it is made of. For any floor, be sure to always clean up messes when they occur and have them deep cleaned regularly.

To clean the different kinds of floors found in the home, consider these ideas:

  • To keep them looking great, vacuum carpeted floors often. Spot-clean any spills that may end up on the carpet with a commercial floor cleaner and a rag, or by using a solution of vinegar and water. Once a year or so, get the high-traffic areas of the house shampooed or steam cleaned.
  • For ceramic tile, sweep often and mop as needed. Try to avoid harsh chemical cleaners when mopping or spot cleaning. After mopping, you can wipe the tile with a dry rag to reduce streaks.
  • Using an all-purpose or vinegar solution, mop linoleum floors to wash away dirt and bring out shine. Rub off any shoe marks and wipe away spots or spills when they occur.
  • Wood floors require sweeping or vacuuming to remove loose dirt. With certain wood floor finishes it is safe to mop, but in some cases this can damage the floor. Use a wood floor cleaner or polish to keep the surface looking nice.
  • It can be helpful to place rugs in certain parts of your home. These rugs can be set in the high traffic areas of your home in order to prevent dirt and wear from accumulating on your carpet. Rugs are also great for keeping wood or tile clean and free from damage, since it stops people from stepping directly on the floor surface.

Whatever type of floor you have, keep it clean and maintained to ensure it lasts for a long time
