It seems like no matter how often you vacuum the carpet and clean up spills, your flooring will end up looking worn out and dingy after a while. This can be frustrating, especially if you really like your carpet and don't have any intention of replacing it. You probably want a low-hassle way to remove ugly spots and stains without needing to invest in a total carpet replacement.
In order to maintain a beautiful carpet, you will probably need to have the carpet deep-cleaned every once in a while to remove any dirt that is stuck in the carpet fibers. There comes a point where no amount of vacuuming will remove this stuck-on, stubborn dirt, so having it cleaned is your best option to return the flooring to its former beauty.
Carpet cleaners are available in different types. First, you have the option of whether you want to hire professional cleaners to do the job for you, or if you are willing to take on the task yourself. Either way, you will have to decide on the method you want used to clean the carpet.
One choice involves the use of a machine to clean the carpet. You can use a shampooer, which uses brushes and water to apply shampoo to the fibers, agitate out the dirt, rinse, then suck the moisture away. You can either rent this machine or hire a technician to use one on your carpet. Another possibility is a carpet steam cleaner, or extractor. This technique uses hot water and detergent that goes deep down into the carpet, removing soil and stubborn stains.
If you don't want to use one of these machines as your carpet cleaner, you will need to try a different option. You can buy powders or foams from the store that you can then apply to your carpet. It will attract the dirt that is stuck in the carpet, and you can use your vacuum to clean the foam or powder away, dirt and all. This is a method you can easily do yourself without needing to worry about the carpet getting wet and requiring time to dry.
How often you deep clean the carpet depends on a few factors. The most important to consider is how high the traffic in the area is. Carpet that gets a lot of traffic should be cleaned at least once a year, possibly more depending on your preferences.
