Auto Cleaning

Written by Karen Bates (last updated August 15, 2022)

Keeping your car clean inside and out requires some work and planning on your part. It is important to stay on top of the task instead of waiting until there is a huge mess to clean. Cleaning is often the best way to keep your car looking great and to prevent damage to the exterior or interior surfaces.

But where should you begin when it comes to maintaining a clean automobile? The following cleaning ideas can help you keep your vehicle looking great:

  • Vacuum the car's floor and upholstery to get rid of dirt, crumbs, and dust. You have a few options on how to go about this. You can use a regular vacuum with a hose attachment to reach hard-to-reach areas inside the car. You might prefer a handheld vacuum, or you can utilize the vacuums available at many carwashes.
  • Clean windows inside and out. Use a glass cleaner and paper towels to remove streaks, fingerprints, and smudges from the windows. If you have traveled recently and need to remove dead bugs from your car, use a car detailing spray and a sponge to remove the mess.
  • Clean and rinse the mats in your car. You can use carpet cleaner to remove any spots or stains, and then rinse the mat with a hose if needed. Let it dry, then replace in the vehicle.
  • Use vinegar to clean dirty windshield wipers. Use a rag soaked in the vinegar to wipe them thoroughly.
  • Detail the dashboard area of the car. First, wipe away dust with a micro fiber cloth. Then, use a cotton swab to clean out any crevasses or grooves that may have collected hard-to-reach dirt.
  • Spray off the wheels of the car to remove mud and dirt that may have accumulated. You can use a wheel cleaner or wax as a final touch.
  • Mix car soap with water in a bucket. Apply the soap to your car's exterior using a sponge or rag and gently scrub. Once done cleaning, rinse the car thoroughly to remove all residue.
  • Dry off the car's exterior after washing. Use a towel to pick up any moisture so that your car looks totally spot-free.

Cleaning your car regularly will help keep your ride looking like new. Be sure to use the right tools and cleaners for your car so that you don't risk damaging it.
