The monitor is the window to the world of your computer, so it's important that you can see it clearly. You have probably noticed that sometimes your view is obstructed by dust, dirt, fingerprints, and smudges on the computer screen. If this is the case with your monitor, it is probably time to clean it.
How you go about cleaning your monitor will depend on a few factors. Most importantly, you will need to consider the type of monitor you have and how dirty it is to decide just how to go ahead with cleaning it. Using the wrong tools or cleaners to clean a computer monitor can actually cause harm, so understand what you are dealing with before you start any cleaning method.
There are two basic types of monitor: glass and LCD. Glass monitors are heavier and bulkier than the LCD versions. Their screens are not particularly delicate, so it is safe to use regular cleaners on them. To remove dust and smudges from a class monitor screen, spray a little glass clean on a paper towel or cloth, then wipe the screen thoroughly. Do not spray cleaner directly on the monitor, and be sure that the monitor is unplugged before you begin working. You can also wipe off the other parts of the monitor with a slightly damp cloth. Or, you might prefer to use a vacuum attachment to suck up dust.
For an LCD or flat screen monitor, do not use glass cleaner. These screens are very delicate and must be handled with care. To clean an LCD screen, turn off the screen and use a microfiber cloth to wipe away fingerprints, smudges, and dust. Examine the screen to see if it is now clean. If not, add just a little bit of water to the cloth and go over the screen again. For especially dirty screens, consider buying an LCD screen cleaner to use. Simply wiping with a cloth should take care of screen cleaning in most situations, however. These cleaning methods also work for laptop screens. Just be sure that the laptop is turned off before you begin cleaning the screen.
Although some monitors require special care, keeping your screen clean is quick and easy. Try to avoid touching the screen itself to help prevent fingerprints and oils from building up on the screen. Also, be gentle while cleaning an LCD screen to avoid damaging it.
