Cleaning Plasma HDTV Screen

Written by Karen Bates (last updated January 18, 2021)

So you did your homework and picked out the perfect plasma HDTV. It looks great in your house and you love watching your favorite shows on its amazingly clear screen. It makes everything you watch seem bigger and bolder, and you really enjoy your new television. So now that you have it set up in you home, that's the last you have to worry about it, right?

Wrong! The truth is that if you want to keep your new T.V. in great condition, you have to properly maintain and care for it. Just like any expensive purchase, you'll want to do everything you can to make your T.V. last as long as possible and remain in great condition.

One important thing that you need to do often is cleaning the HDTV screen. This will keep the picture clear and allow you to get the most enjoyment out of your T.V. However, remember that cleaning a plasma screen can be different from cleaning a regular T.V. screen, and particular care must be taken to prevent damage.

To keep the screen clean, try these ideas to prevent and clean dust, dirt and marks:

  • Prevent Fingerprints. Sometimes this may be unavoidable, but try not to touch the screen of your HDTV. If you touch the screen, oils from your skin and dirt leave unsightly marks and can be irritating to remove. If you must touch the screen, be careful and consider wearing gloves.
  • Wipe Dust Away. Using a clean, dry cloth (micro fiber is especially good), wipe any dust off of the plasma screen. In many cases, this will be enough to clean most dust or loose dirt from the screen. Be careful and do not apply too much pressure to the delicate screen. If you need to, go over the screen first with a damp cloth and then a dry one.
  • Use a Cleaning Kit. If your screen has stubborn fingerprints or other marks that cannot be wiped away with a cloth, you will need to try cleaner on the screen. You can purchase special cleaning kits or screen cleaning products that are made especially for your television and can be found at an electronics store. In most cases, it is not advisable to use regular cleaners because some may damage the screen or even void your warranty. Consult the TV's manual for help.

HDTVs are a lot of fun, and if they are cared for properly they can bring years of enjoyment to your family.
