Ceramic Tile Cleaning

The flooring in your home makes a big difference in the overall look of an area. What kind of floors you choose for the various rooms in your house can impact how you will decorate, what furniture to use, and what the room will be used for.

Although carpet is one of the most popular floor coverings, tile is also a much sought-after type of flooring. Tile can add class to any room, and it is most often used in kitchens and bathrooms. You can, however, install tile in any room you like.

Tile comes in different materials, and one of these is ceramic. Ceramic tiles are beautiful, easy to clean and maintain, and are durable enough to last for years. As long as you care for ceramic tile correctly, you can expect to enjoy its beauty for a long time.

But how should you go about cleaning ceramic tile? Since maintaining this flooring is important to its overall look, remember these ideas when you need to clean your ceramic tile:

  • Wipe up spills when they happen. This is the most important step to preventing stains and problems later on. Use a wet rag to pick up most messes, or mop the spot with a little soap to eliminate spills before they harden and become difficult to remove.
  • Sweep or vacuum your ceramic floor often. You may want to do this daily if you are dealing with a high-traffic area, or maybe once or twice a week for less-used parts of the house. By sweeping, you reduce the amount of dirt and dust that can build up on the floor.
  • Mop the entire floor area using a tile cleaner to keep it looking clean and attractive. Use a cleaner recommended by the tile manufacturer to reduce the risk of damaging your flooring.
  • Grout is the most difficult part of maintaining your ceramic tile floor. To get rid of stuck-on dirt in the grout, you can try a commercial grout cleaner. Scrub the cleaner into the grout with a bristle brush to bring up stubborn dirt and staining. You can also try a bleach mixture to reduce stains in the grout, but make sure it is safe to use on your tile before you try this method. Sometimes, bleach can discolor the tile.

Ceramic tile is generally easy to care for. Be sure to sweep and mop often to prevent dirty buildup.
