Automobile Cleaning

Written by Karen Bates (last updated May 2, 2016)

Your car gets you where you need to go, but what do you do for your car to show a little appreciation? Whether you drive a brand new expensive car or an older used vehicle, keeping your car clean can help keep your vehicle looking great and can leave you with something you will be proud to drive.

There are a few elements when it comes to automobile cleaning. You will need to pay attention to both the exterior and the interior to ensure that your car continues to look neat and clean, and each area requires certain cleaning methods.

To get your car clean inside and out, consider these cleaning ideas:

  • Use glass cleaner with paper towels on all glass, inside and outside of the car. Use a streak-free formula for completely clear windows. Don't forget to remove spots and streaks from mirrors as well.
  • Organize items in your car using storage bins. This will help you keep everything in order and can reduce clutter.
  • Vacuum the seats and floor. Use vacuum attachments to make this job easy, or try the vacuums available at most car wash establishments. Use an all-purpose cleaner to pick up any stains and spills that may have ended up on the fabric. For seats that are especially susceptible to spills, consider protecting your upholstery with a seat cover.
  • Wash the exterior of your vehicle using car wash soap and water. You will probably need a hose and sponge for this task. Soap up the car according to the product's directions, then rinse clean with plenty of water.
  • Leave an air freshener in your car to give the interior a pleasant smell that will last for weeks.
  • Take your car through a car wash once in a while for a really deep clean. You can use an automatic car wash, or do it yourself using a manual car wash. This is a great way to get your car's exterior spotless when you can't wash your car at home. Many car washes also have vacuums that you can use on the interior if needed.
  • Stay on top of messes inside the car by picking up trash and crumbs every few days. This will prevent larger messes from developing, and will keep your car constantly clean.

Although it may seem like a hassle at first, taking steps to clean your car inside and out will leave you with a great-looking ride that you will be comfortable driving.
