Even though you might go to great lengths to avoid spills and messes on your car's seats, sometimes accidents happen. In a moving car, just about anything is subject to spilling if you aren't extremely careful. Although some messes are far worse than others to clean up, you need to know the right way to deal with spills to have the best results.
The best cleaning method for your car's upholstery is constant maintenance. This means you need to keep on top of messes before they develop into big problems that take a long time to clean. Spend a little time each week picking up wrappers, crumbs, and other garbage from the car to keep it from piling up. Dust the interior of the car often as well to stop a dirty build-up from forming.
Use a vacuum cleaner with brush attachments to deep clean your car's interior. Pick up dirt, dust, and crumbs that might be stuck in cracks in the car seats. The attachment makes this task much easier, although you can use other methods like picking it up with your fingers or using a broom to brush the mess away. You can also use the vacuum to clean up the floor and suck up dust from the dashboard area.
If a spill does occur on your car's upholstery, be ready with the proper cleaning tools to take care of the problem right away. Use an upholstery-cleaning spray on the spot, then use a rag or paper towels to blot it up. Hopefully this will be enough to tackle a surprise mess before it turns into a permanent stain. If not, you can have a professional detailer clean the car's interior for you.
If you are worried about spots showing up on the upholstery in your car, one thing you can do is take measures to prevent the problem from occurring in the first place. For instance, there are many seat covers available for you to protect your seats while getting to customize your car's interior at the same time. Some covers come in waterproof varieties to repel liquid stains.
Keep your car upholstery clean by regularly cleaning up spills and vacuuming on a regular basis. Remember to replace the car's air filter when needed to help keep things clean—a dirty filter can allow dirt, dust, and allergens into the car's interior where it can settle on surfaces and caused respiratory problems.
