Car Detailing

Written by Karen Bates (last updated July 24, 2023)

Sometimes it's the little things that make a huge difference, and this can be true of your car. Keeping your vehicle clean overall is one thing, but giving it a detailed cleaning can really bring out its true beauty. We all know that washing your car regularly will help keep it in good condition, but there is more to cleaning than this alone.

Car detailing is the process of cleaning your car thoroughly, paying attention to every detail as you go. This can be a tedious and long process, and because of this many car owners leave this job to a professional. You can, however, successfully detail your car with a few basic tools. It may take some time, but the results you get from detailing your vehicle can definitely be worth the effort.

If you want to detail your car, the first step is to gather your tools and cleaners together. Some helpful items to have available include glass cleaner, vinegar solution, cotton swabs, rags, hose with spray nozzle, car shampoo, sponge, paper towels, a vacuum with attachments, and an all-purpose cleaner.

You can start by washing the exterior of your vehicle using car shampoo and water. Use a wet, soapy sponge to wipe off any build-up you find on the surface, such as dead bugs or caked-on mud. When you are done, rinse off the car and dry it so water spots aren't left behind. If needed, use some glass cleaner and paper towels to remove streaks and spots from the windshield.

Now it's time to work on the inside of the car. Use some cleaner (or vinegar solution), rags, paper towels, and cotton swabs to remove dirt and dust from the dashboard area. Using cotton-swabs, pay close attention to buttons, grooves, and other hard-to-clean spots that might have collected dirt. Use a little cleaner or vinegar on the swab for extra cleaning power. Vacuum the car's floor and upholstery to get rid of dirt and crumbs, clean any stains you might come across with the all-purpose cleaner, and finish up by using glass cleaner and paper towels to clean the windows on the inside of the car.

Although it might take a little while to do a really good job, detailing your car isn't too difficult. It can make a huge difference in how your car looks, and also how you feel while you are driving it.
