Use a Cotton Ball and Perfume to Freshen Your Home

Written by Amy Gordon (last updated January 25, 2021)

As discussed in other articles, having your house smell fresh and clean is not only possible by using a store bought solution. Many options exist, and all of them are less expensive than the store bought alternative. The good things about these alternative options is that they also will not have as many chemicals as most store bought options, which many people find react badly with their respiratory system.

For this particular technique, you only need three simply things. The first is a cotton ball. The second is a small glass jar. The third is either perfume or cologne. If you do not already know where to buy some good, natural perfume, I would suggest Bath and Body Works. I find that their perfume is not too strong, and the store also has smells that you would want to find in your home. Many smells are good on your body, but smell strange as a home odor.

If you prefer not to have jars sitting around your house, try using a decorative votive candle holder. Many home decor stores such as Bed, Bath & Beyond carry a variety of small colored or crystal cups that will look nice in your home.

Once you have the necessary supplies, all you have to do is soak the cotton ball in the perfume or cologne that you previously chose. Place this little ball into the glass jar. Do not place a lid on the jar or the scent will not be able to escape. The smell should spread through the room and freshen it up, but it will not be overpowering.

Obviously the cotton ball will eventually dry up and the smell will begin to fade. All you have to do is replace the cotton ball in the jar with a new one that has been freshly soaked with the perfume or cologne that you want.

Since this little combination is so inexpensive, try adding these to all the rooms in your house. It will smell great, and even make your bathroom smell cleaner than it has ever smelled before.
