Whether you like to use pre-made aromatherapy products, or like to use your own these items are said to help your mind and body in many different ways. But the real question is what kind of products should you use, and how do they work? Typically there are four main types of aromatherapy products that are available. Regardless of where you get the aromatherapy product, they are all going to be in one of these four categories. Once you understand what these categories are, you will be better able to mix, match, and combine the delivery process to achieve the maximum effect that you want.
- Essential oils. Essential oils are often fairly expensive. The reason for this is that the oils used are often extracted from over 700 different kinds of plants, and it is a long process. Considering that a plant can only give so much oil at a time, it only makes sense that a person can only extract an extremely small amount of oil from each plant. In addition, the extraction process takes a great deal of time, care, and care and knowledge in order to extract the oil properly. However, while it is fairly expensive essential oils are the most potent form of aromatherapy products available.
- Diffusers. Diffusers are a method for dispersing essential oils and other types of aromatherapy products. Essentially, diffusers rely on the process of circulation in two different manners, hot and cold. Cold diffusers will simply rely on the normal air circulation without any extra heat added to the process. In effect, you are simply allowing the scented material to impart its fragrance on its own. Hot diffusers do the exact opposite. By applying a little bit of heat to the essential oils, salts, potpourri, and candles you help speed up the diffusion process. This method of delivery does require some care though since you are working with heat and sometimes open flames. If you are not careful, you can easily find yourself with a fire or other type of damage that needs to be repaired.
- Misting bottle. This type of delivery system can often fit into your pocket, and is the principle behind things such as body sprays, perfumes, and colognes. Some of the most common types of misting bottles are small spritzing bottles, perfume bottles, and so on. However, if you are looking to affect a large area, then simply use a large spray bottle, and have it set to a fine mist.
- Incense and candles. Perhaps the most commonly used types of aromatherapy products. In fact, these types are so commonly used that you can often find both scented candles and incense at your local department, and grocery stores. Simply light the wick of the candle and enjoy your favourite smells. If you are using incense, light the end of the stick or cone and then blow the flame out. The incense will continue to smoulder, allowing the scent filled smoke to waft through the room.
