Removing Bamboo Stains from Carpet

Written by Karen Bates (last updated May 29, 2023)

Bamboo furniture can be a beautiful addition to any home. It adds character and creates an exotic look in any room of your house.

Although bamboo looks nice in its natural state, you might prefer to use a stain on your bamboo furniture to give it a new color. This is a way to make bamboo furniture better match other furniture or look better in a certain room in your home.

Unfortunately, the staining process can be a messy one, and you might find that you have accidentally spilled stain on your carpet. Getting wood stains out of carpet can be an annoyance, but with the right knowledge you can successfully remove the stain. Some carpet types will be easier to remove a stain from than others, but at the very least you should be able to greatly reduce the appearance of a stain.

If staining your bamboo furniture has left spots on your carpet, try these tips to remove the stains:

  • Using acetone from a hardware stone, apply it to the stain and try to lift it out with a clean cloth. Continue until the stain is gone.
  • Try WD-40 or a similar product to get the stain out. Spray on the stained area and blot with a cloth or paper towel.
  • Spray a carpet cleaner on the stain. It helps if the cleaner is able to remove grease. Gently blot at the stain with a paper towel to lift the stain. Go over the area again until the spot has faded away.
  • Be sure to treat the stain as soon as if happens. The longer a stain sits, the more difficult it can be to remove. Try to clean spills before they have a chance to dry.
  • You can try using alcohol to remove a stain. Using a clean towel or rag, carefully blot the spot with the alcohol until it goes away.

Be careful that you do not rub at the stain when cleaning it. This can make the problem worse by spreading the stain and pushing it deeper into the carpet. Instead, blot at the area gently to lift the stain out. When you have removed the stain, use a carpet cleaner to get any remaining residue out of your carpet. If the stain simply cannot be removed by anything you try, you will probably have to have it professionally cleaned.
