Carpet Cleaning Products

If you have carpet in your home, it's pretty much certain that something will spill on it at one time or another. Even though carpeting is a comfortable and beautiful way to cover the floors in your home, it has its own specific cleaning and maintenance needs.

When something gets on the carpet, your first instinct is to clean the mess up right away. But what kind of cleaner should your reach for? The answer depends on a few factors, like the kind of spill and what the carpet itself is made of.

There are various carpet cleaning products for you to choose from when your carpet needs to be cleaned. You can select the best cleaner by taking things like the type of spill, the carpet material, and the age of the stain into account. Some of your choices for carpet cleaners include:

  • Multi-Purpose Cleaners. These tend to come in the form of a cleaner spray, and can be applied directly to the spot on your carpet. In some cases, this cleaner alone can successfully clean up a nasty spill, but since it's not necessarily designed for the specific stain or carpeting, it might not work every time.
  • Pet Stain Removers. Although owning a pet can be a positive experience, cleaning up after your cat, dog, or other animal is not the highlight of your day. Fortunately, there are cleaning formulas available designed especially for removing stains and odors left by animals. You can find these at a pet store, or even at the grocery store in some areas.
  • Steam Cleaning. If you own a steam cleaner or can rent one, this can be an excellent way to remove carpet stains. Some steam cleaners can clean many surface types, and may have special attachments to make carpet cleaning easy and effective.
  • Carpet Cleaning Spray. Some cleaners are designed especially for carpet. These will probably be more successful than a multi-purpose cleaner, especially for extra-tough spots.
  • Cleaners for Specific Stains. If you spill something like red wine or yellow mustard on the carpet, you might want to try a cleaner that is made especially for these kinds of stains. These formulas are more likely to completely remove dye stains that might seem impossible to get rid of at first.

Next time you find yourself with a stained carpet, don't panic. Consider which cleaner would work best for the situation and try your best to clean the spot with the right carpet cleaning product.
